All-True Rambling Me Poem
By Amy Trettel
2018
I love apples when they crunch.
I love tea right after lunch.
I love storms when they shake a room.
I love inappropriate comedians and a broken-in broom.
I love pop music in the summer and female folk in the fall.
I love Schitt's Creek and AGT, not to name them all.
I love sleeping with a fan.
I briefly owned a mini van.
I love smelling a dog's face.
I love my very colorful suitcase.
My first job was selling greasy pies.
I like wild dancing and sweaty exercise.
I like non-fiction books and bathrooms with hooks.
I've never once had lice,
but I've had the chicken pox twice.
I love showers that almost burn and
ballet teachers to be stern.
I love white walls and the color pink.
In a pool, I once watched my cabbage patch kid sink.
I love inaccuracies in art.
I always wear a middle part.
I think trees can feel and
dogs can heal.
My teddy bear, Snowball, was born in 1985.
He was lost on a plane once, but made it back alive.
Tailgating and slurping sounds bring my blood to a boil.
I love to wrap gifts, sometimes I use foil.
I love heavy snow and a wood stove fire.
I'd like an iPad Pro, but it's not dire.
I love doing laundry, especially the sorting.
My laugh can be a cackle, but I don't do snorting.
I love dark egg yolks and crisp shadows on walls.
I love narrow sweet potatoes and really wide halls.
I love hot water bottles in bed,
and small amounts of the color red.
In grade school, I threw a cheeseball across the room.
It was a dare and I faced some shame and mild doom.
I love a sticker that smells and prefer creams
instead of gels.
Sarah Silverman and Amy Schumer crack me
like an egg.
I usually give in whenever my dogs beg.
I've watched Baby Mama around 42 times.
In guacamole, I sometimes use lemons instead of limes.
I fantasize about living in England - it's true.
I crave clouds and dreary skies minus the wet dew.
On our first date, when we were busy acquainting,
my husband invited me to do some tedious wall painting.
My love for E.T. has never died.
Sauerkraut, I've never tried.
I love running in extreme heat.
I wear shoes in the house, not just the street.
I wear zip hoodies until they fall apart and
leggings I think are very smart.
I love practicing pirouettes around the house.
One time, my vitamins were eaten by a mouse.
Summer camp was my favorite thing as a kid.
I lived in many houses, most that we redid.
My youngest plays the violin and rides horses too.
My middle is a dancer- her favorite step fondue.
My oldest likes his games, a clever boy he's told.
He prefers towels on the floor and cereal 8 days old.
My husband is a handy one to say the least.
He builds stuff and loves his cars and eats chips
like a beast.
The world fights over fairytales, I think.
Now stuck like gum in a tribal sink.
One cake cut into a million pieces,
as the hunger for everything increases.
Thank you for reading this.
I hope it wasn't a chore.
I wish the best for all beings, even this wooden
door.
